Cut

Here are the two works I have in the CUT Members exhibition that I curated at Bank Street.

Cut with the Kitchen Scissors

This collage is a homage to the great collage artist Hannah Hoch.

Just like Francis Bacon

This is my own homage to Francis Bacon's work. When Francis Bacon was dissatisfied with his paintings he would cut out the canvas and destroy it. He would leave the stretcher frame (with the remains of the painting) to be reused. Some of these 'remainder' paintings have been salvaged from his studio and come up for auction and fetch about £22,000. So you can own a Francis Bacon for thousands rather than millions!!!

CUT

Hanging CUT exhibition went well today thanks to Tom Mann at Bank St, along with help from Helen Frank and Rachel Smith (who curated last year's Members Show).

Still a bit more work left to do tomorrow. I have made collage name plates for each work which need hanging tomorrow.

The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt

I have just finished reading the impressive book The Blazing World by Siri Hustvedt. A clever book where the author pieces together Harriet Burden's life as an artist in New York in what seems like a piece of research through her notebooks, reviews, friends' and family's testaments and many more documents. Now dead we see the artist's life revealed before us with all her thwarted dreams as an artist. I will say no more as I don't want to give anything away but it is well worth a read. Not surprisingly it has been shortlisted for the Man Booker. I think it is only out in hardback but I borrowed it from the library.

Hamlet Haberdashers

Every Monday morning I go to Abbeydale Industrial Hamlet where I am a member of the Hamlet Haberdashers. We renovate and make things for the Hamlet. At the moment I am making a second rag rug. The first one I worked on (with others) is now in one of the houses at the Hamlet.
